After the tragic loss of their only daughter, Xalil and Yamis are consumed by grief and silence.
As their relationship fractures, Xalil becomes increasingly withdrawn, developing a disturbing sensitivity to sound.
Convinced that his daughter’s death was not an accident but a murder, he spirals into obsession, blurring the line between reality and paranoia.
Statement
My film explores the psychological consequences of grief and trauma, particularly within intimate relationships.
Through Xalil’s descent into obsession, it highlights how unprocessed pain can distort perception and isolate individuals from those around them.
The story also aims to raise awareness about mental health, especially in contexts where it remains widely neglected, such as in Senegal. In many communities, men are expected to remain strong and emotionally restrained, which can prevent them from expressing vulnerability and seeking help. By contrast, the film subtly questions how different cultural expectations shape the way individuals cope with loss and trauma.
By portraying how grief manifests differently within a couple, through silence, emotional distance, and psychological distress, the film sheds light on the urgent need for greater understanding, emotional support, and access to mental health care.
