When finding one’s place feels increasingly difficult, it’s easy to slip into personal dissatisfaction. The Vase is a film that explores this feeling—a woman in her late thirties succumbs to her discontent, losing sight of the things in life she once valued. I wanted to explore the consequences of personal dissatisfaction and how jealousy and vanity contribute to a distorted self-image. Society plays a crucial role in this, setting priorities for who we are and who we should be. The story that this short film is based on is written by a woman, about a woman, and directed by woman, exploring different stages of womanhood we go through, and expectations, and societal norms and roles we have to fit in to please the society. The real problem, however, is that this same society remains silent when faced with an individual who is lost.
