Pod&Gorica
Pod & Gorica is a short animated film that tells the story of the development of Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica, through the imagination and play of a young boy. Using colorful building blocks as a metaphor, the film explores the city’s transformation from a small settlement into a modern urban space, while reflecting on the impact of urbanization on nature, especially Gorica Hill. Through humor, symbolism, and recognizable landmarks, the film combines educational and ecological messages with themes of identity, memory, and coexistence between people and the environment. Intended for all generations, it connects local history with universal contemporary concerns.
Statement
Pod & Gorica is a social impact project because it uses animation and symbolism to open a conversation about urbanization, environmental preservation and collective responsibility toward public space. Through the innocent play of a child, the film reflects how cities are shaped by human decisions and how rapid development can gradually distance people from nature and their own identity.
The film particularly raises awareness about the importance of protecting green areas within growing cities, inspired by the relationship between Podgorica and Gorica Hill, one of its most important natural symbols. By presenting history and ecological issues in a playful and accessible way, the film encourages younger audiences to think about sustainability, while older generations are invited to reflect on memory, change and the future of their community.
Created as an independent student project, the film also promotes local culture, intergenerational dialogue and the idea that animation can be a powerful educational and socially engaged art form.
