Fitzgerald's "This Side of Paradise" is a very autobiographical book, "The Egotist" is not a true story but it still conveys truth through the characters: what they say and do, and what happens to them. I took Fitzgerald’s words and concerns and tinted them with my own, merging the toughts of two people experiencing the world in their twenties a century apart. Fitzgerald witnessed the 'jazz age' turning into the Great Depression and the rise of extremist and fascist movements, a political and cultural shift we have been reliving in the past years as well, namely in Portugal.
