With How to Grow a Human, I wanted to use the form of a metaphorical manual to speak about the importance of caring for one another. Beyond meeting our basic physical needs, the film emphasizes the necessity of emotional care, support, and human connection. It reflects on how essential it is for every individual, from birth onward, to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment shaped by love, understanding, and support. Through this allegory, the film also touches on the importance of mental health and the lasting impact that care, or the absence of it, can have on a person’s emotional development and well-being.
