A boy walks down the street, searching for something that seems to slip through his fingers. From a drawing of a dove on the pavement to a flag fluttering in the wind, the ancient symbols of peace appear before him, only to vanish as quickly as they emerged. Set to the atmospheric notes of 'Let Go' within a surreal and dreamlike ambiance, this visual journey is a poignant reflection on our contemporary world. Is peace a tangible reality, or has it become a vanishing illusion in 2026?
Statement
"Just Imagination" is a critique of the institutional and human indifference surrounding modern conflicts. By using symbols that look like children’s drawings (the primary victims of war), the film highlights how peace has been reduced to a fragile, vanishing illusion. The disappearance of these markers symbolizes how collective inattention is the first obstacle to peace. Specifically, the vanishing of the flag while the protagonist admires the grandeur of a church serves as a critique of institutional silence: the majestic building represents both the Church and the nations that possess the power to intervene but remain motionless. The climax, featuring a beautiful olive tree in a surreal landscape, represents the ultimate hope for peace; its final disappearance, returning the boy to the cold reality of the city, reinforces the film's message. This project aims to provoke a reflection on a painful contemporary truth: in 2026, we are still watching peace disappear, urging the audience to move from passive observation to active awareness.
Cast and Crew
The film is written, directed, and produced by Siria Marcuccio, who also appears in the role of "The Girl at the end of the film." The main protagonist, "The Boy," is played by Gabriele Marcuccio, while Sabrina Danieli features as "The Passerby".
