Fontanelle / Soft spot
Fontanelle follows Assa, a young mother on the run who records a farewell video in the bathroom of a moving train. Through this intimate monologue, she attempts to justify the unthinkable: her inability to endure motherhood. Torn between genuine tenderness, violent anger and psychological exhaustion, Assa begins to reveal forbidden thoughts no mother is supposed to confess. Trapped in this oppressive confined space with her baby, she slowly spirals toward an irreversible breaking point.
Statement
The film explores a subject that is rarely portrayed so directly in cinema: the forbidden thoughts linked to motherhood. Through the character of Assa, Fontanelle questions the social pressure placed on mothers to embody a figure that is naturally loving, patient and fulfilled, even when they are experiencing exhaustion, isolation or rejection of their own role.
By giving a voice to emotions considered shameful or monstrous, the film aims to contribute to a broader reflection on maternal mental health, loneliness and the social pressure surrounding the idea of the “good mother.”
