Our short film, 'Sawdust' aims to give a voice to the biggest minority, yet marginalized Roma community in Hungary. The message we want to convey is that social indifference and 'turned heads' are just as harmful as active discrimination and racism. We used the falling sawdust as a metaphor for the 'leftovers' of society. It represents the Roma community as a byproduct that is often ignored and swept away. Just like dust, the social tension and these human fates are present everywhere, yet we choose not to see them. Our goal was to create a film that doesn't just tell a story, but also provokes a dialogue about human dignity and the importance of noticing each other.
