In a small Tanzanian village, daily life unfolds in quiet rhythms — until the arrival of a group of Italian volunteers disrupts the ordinary. As two worlds collide, the community begins to question what this foreign presence truly means, and whether it was ever really needed.
Statement
Beyond challenges an assumption most volunteers never question: that our presence is inherently welcome. Through the intimate, unguarded perspectives of two narrators, the film traces a story of friendship and acceptance told through a multiplicity of voices — exposing cultural blind spots and power imbalances that international aid rarely acknowledges. It doesn't preach; it listens. As a social impact project, Beyond invites audiences to sit with the deeper contradictions of volunteer work abroad: the desire to help, and the harder question of whether that help was ever really asked for.
