Alien Rider
A short documentary film that takes the viewers on a thought-provoking journey into the daily life of a food delivery rider, in Estonian harsh winter. The observational approach with its focus on visual composition emphasize minor details, allowing us to observe a society that has turned its back on the most vulnerable. The film portrays the rider’s struggle without excessive words or narration, capturing perfectly the isolation and uncertainty of their everyday lives.
Statement
it explores the hidden human cost behind the convenience economy and gives visibility to workers who are often ignored by society. Through the daily experience of a food delivery rider during the harsh Estonian winter, the film reflects on precarious labor conditions, migration, economic inequality, and the exploitation embedded within contemporary platform capitalism.
The project was inspired by observing how deeply delivery platforms have become integrated into everyday life, both in Milan and Estonia, while the people sustaining these systems remain largely invisible. Many international students and migrants depend on delivery work as their only possibility to survive financially due to visa restrictions and limited employment opportunities. The film aims to raise awareness about this reality and encourage viewers to reflect on the human consequences behind the simplicity of ordering food with a single click.
