Bianca Rêgo
My name is Bianca Rêgo, a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in Europe. I work with film as a way of navigating lived experiences of womanhood, mental health, queerness and other socially pertinent subjects close to me and my communities. I selected this frame from "Vir-a-Ser" (2018) as it is the epitome of the theme from the short film and a recurrent image in my work: to become a woman. In the opening scene, performer Narany Mireya dances with barbed wire under intense pink light, immersed in underwater sound, and, as she dances and bleeds, I explore the tension between vulnerability and resistance within the female body. To me, cinema is not only an artistic language, but a political and collective space where intimate experiences can resonate beyond the individual.
